Responsible Retrenchment
When an organisation has to let people go, how it does it defines the company for years afterward. This is the definitive Singapore guide to conducting retrenchment with legal rigour, commercial sense, and human dignity, so you protect your people and your employer brand at the same time.

Before you plan a single exit, see what could go wrong
We built the Retrenchment Risk Navigator for HR leaders and management teams in the planning phase of a retrenchment exercise. Answer a short set of questions about your situation, and it maps the specific legal, reputational, and people risks you’re exposed to, along with practical steps to address each one before it becomes a problem.
It’s the fastest way to pressure-test your plan against the mistakes that most often turn a necessary exercise into a costly one.

Dignity
Respectful treatment of every employee throughout the process.
Preparation
Thorough planning and proper manager training before any notification.
Support

Honest Answers
Is the handbook really free?
Yes. The digital handbook is free to download. We publish it because responsible retrenchment is better for everyone, employers included, and because it reflects the depth of our outplacement practice. If your organisation wants hands-on support, that’s where our paid services come in.
Is this specific to Singapore employment law?
Yes. The handbook is grounded in the Singapore context: the Employment Act, the Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower, the Workplace Fairness Act 2025, and MOM procedures. The principles of compassionate exit management travel anywhere, but the legal and regulatory detail is Singapore-specific. It complements, and does not replace, advice from your own legal counsel.
How is the Risk Navigator different from the book?
The book is the complete reference. The Retrenchment Risk Navigator is a quick, interactive gut-check for a specific situation: answer a few questions and see your key exposure areas and what to do about them. Many teams use the Navigator first to size the challenge, then turn to the handbook, or to us, for the detail.
We’re not planning a retrenchment. Is this still relevant?
Absolutely. The best time to understand responsible exit management is before you need it. Many organisations read the handbook as part of contingency planning, governance, and manager development, so that if the moment ever comes, they’re ready to handle it well.
